Storm Adam Swells Torrents Across Santa Eulària as Flooding Hits Homes, Roads and Beaches

October 20, 2026

Santa Eulària des Riu faced widespread disruption on Monday, 19 October, after Storm Adam brought intense rainfall to Ibiza, flooding homes and parking areas, damaging parts of the coastline and forcing temporary road closures.

The municipality recorded 77 litres of rain per square metre in the six hours before midday. The effects were particularly visible in the north and east of the municipality, including es Figueral, Cala Llenya, es Canar and the Sant Carles area, where torrents carried large volumes of water towards beaches and roads.

Torrents Overflow and Beaches Are Hit by Heavy Runoff

Some of the most striking scenes were recorded at the mouths of the torrents at es Figueral and Cala Llenya, where powerful flows of water reached the beaches.

In Puig d’en Valls, a substantial accumulation of water in the torrent of ses Dones forced the passage to be closed. Significant water accumulation was also reported along sa Llavanera and at es Figueral.

The storm caused notable damage to es Figueral beach, while Cala Llenya experienced considerable water accumulation. Es Canar was also affected, particularly around its promenade and several parking areas, some of which were partially flooded.

The incidents highlighted the pressure that intense rainfall can place on drainage systems and low-lying areas, especially after prolonged precipitation.

Homes Flooded and Trees Brought Down

The municipal report listed several incidents involving residential properties and buildings.

Two homes in the Font des Murtar area were flooded, as was another property in polygon 7. In Jesús, water entered a garage on Carrer Paó, while part of a ceiling fell on Carrer Gregal.

Several trees also fell at different locations across the municipality, and some hotel establishments suffered disruption because of the large volume of accumulated water.

Emergency services additionally attended an incident at Cala Mestella to assist a person who had spent the night there with their vehicle.

Large Rock Falls onto Road in Es Figueral

A particularly striking incident occurred near Bungalow Park in es Figueral, where a large rock fell onto the road and obstructed the route.

Two excavators were sent to remove the rock and clear the affected stretch. The town hall confirmed that the incident caused no personal injuries, although the road was affected while the obstruction was dealt with.

Five Roads Temporarily Closed

The heavy rainfall forced the temporary closure of five roads:

  • The road to es Figueral.

  • The road to Cala Llenya.

  • The road to Cala Mestella.

  • The road to Morna.

  • The road to Atzaró.

The town hall reported that all five had reopened to traffic at around 12:30. However, some urban roads remained closed for longer because of standing water and other storm-related incidents, including Carrer de s’Aljub and Avenida de Cala Nova.

Authorities urged residents to avoid unnecessary journeys, respect traffic signs and follow instructions from emergency and security personnel. Drivers were warned not to attempt to cross flooded sections of road.

Emergency Teams Mobilised Across the Municipality

To manage the large number of incidents, Santa Eulària deployed 22 local police officers and three Civil Protection members. Five administrative staff also reinforced the municipal communications centre, CECOM, to help coordinate reports and emergency responses.

The work included dealing with flooding, fallen trees, road obstructions and water accumulating around buildings and public spaces.

The municipality also highlighted preventative work carried out before the storm. During the previous month, the town hall had undertaken cleaning across approximately 14,000 square metres of urban torrents, alongside maintenance of stormwater drains and street gullies.

The cleaning programme included the Canal del Porrador, sa Sèquia de sa Llavanera and its secondary channel, the torrent of s’Aguader, the torrent of sa Fumassa and the Santa Eulària river, as well as areas near crossing bridges in Santa Gertrudis and Can Guasch.

The town hall said these measures had helped water flow through the drainage network and mitigate the impact of the rainfall. The municipality had also planned 98 interventions across different areas to remove vegetation, rubbish and other obstructions from the drainage system.

Caution Continues After the Worst of the Rain

Although the most intense phase of Storm Adam appeared to have passed by Monday afternoon, the municipality urged residents and visitors to remain cautious around affected roads and areas where water could still accumulate.

The flooding across Santa Eulària demonstrated how quickly intense rainfall can disrupt daily life, from homes and businesses to roads, beaches and parking areas.

Authorities continued to advise people to follow official updates and avoid unnecessary travel while recovery and clean-up work progressed.
