ALSA Bus Depot in Ibiza Floods Again as Company Blames Aqualia Pump Failure

October 22, 2026

ALSA's bus depot in Platja d’en Bossa flooded again during the heavy rainfall caused by DANA Adam, prompting an intervention by the Military Emergency Unit (UME) to remove accumulated water on 20 October. The company has attributed the incident to a failure of a pump operated by Aqualia, while the PSOE group at the Ibiza Island Council is demanding explanations over the repeated flooding and the measures taken to address the problem.

The incident has renewed questions about drainage at the site, five months after the socialists say they first raised concerns about the condition of the area used to park buses.

Water Reached the Doors of Parked Buses

The flooding affected the open area in Platja d’en Bossa where ALSA parks its buses. According to information cited by the PSOE group, water accumulated around the vehicles and reached their doors, preventing drivers from accessing some buses.

The party also reported that the water affected access ramps intended for people with reduced mobility.

The UME was called in to help remove the accumulated water as part of the wider emergency response to the intense rainfall affecting Ibiza.

Although the depot was flooded, ALSA told La Voz de Ibiza that public transport services were not affected and that buses continued operating normally.

ALSA Attributes the Flooding to an Aqualia Pump Failure

ALSA sources attributed the accumulation of water to a failure in a pump operated by Aqualia, which they said prevented the site from draining during the intense rainfall.

The explanation comes from the bus company and has not been established as an independent finding of responsibility. The available reporting does not include a detailed technical assessment of the pump failure or establish whether other factors contributed to the flooding.

The distinction matters because the incident occurred during an episode of exceptionally heavy rainfall that affected several parts of Ibiza, requiring emergency crews to remove water from roads, car parks and other flooded areas.

PSOE Says It Raised Concerns Five Months Earlier

The PSOE group at the Consell d’Eivissa says it warned about problems at the depot in May 2026, when rainfall left buses parked on the undeveloped ground surrounded by mud and unable to leave the site in some cases.

Following the latest flooding, the socialists questioned whether the island government had verified that the depot met the necessary conditions before the new public transport contract came into force on 1 April 2026.

The party is demanding explanations about what measures have been taken since its earlier warning, what inspections have been carried out and whether any requirements have been issued to ALSA.

It also wants clarification of the ownership of the land and the respective obligations of the operator and other parties for maintaining the site and ensuring adequate drainage.

The PSOE argues that repeated incidents could affect the operation of the transport service, working conditions and accessibility. It is calling for a lasting solution rather than repeated emergency interventions after heavy rain.

These are questions raised by the opposition group; the available information does not establish that the island government or any particular company has been found responsible for the flooding.

Responsibility for Drainage Remains Unclear

The latest incident has highlighted unresolved questions about how the depot is maintained and how water is evacuated from the site during severe weather.

ALSA has pointed to the failure of an Aqualia pump, while the PSOE is asking the Consell to clarify the obligations of the different parties involved. The available reporting does not establish the full contractual arrangements governing the land, drainage infrastructure or maintenance responsibilities.

No formal finding assigning liability for the latest flooding has been identified in the material reviewed.

The immediate response has focused on removing the water and restoring access to the depot. The outstanding issue is whether the responsible parties will introduce measures capable of preventing the same problem from recurring during future episodes of heavy rainfall.
