Storm Adam Forces Ibiza Council and Sant Antoni to Suspend In-Person Public Services

October 19, 2026

The Consell d’Eivissa and Sant Antoni Town Council suspended in-person services for non-essential staff on Monday, 19 October 2026, as Storm Adam continued to affect Ibiza with heavy rain and a serious risk of flooding. The measures were introduced to reduce unnecessary journeys and protect residents and public employees while emergency services responded to the effects of the storm.

The island council confirmed that non-essential employees should remain at home, while personnel responsible for essential services and emergencies continued working. Sant Antoni also closed municipal offices and sports facilities and suspended sports and cultural activities.

Other municipalities, including Ibiza Town, Sant Josep and Santa Eulària, announced their own preventive measures in response to the deteriorating weather situation.

Consell d’Eivissa Suspends Services and Closes Facilities

Following instructions from the Centre for Integrated Operational Coordination (CECOPI), coordinated by the Balearic Government’s Directorate General of Emergencies, the Consell d’Eivissa introduced changes to several services and facilities.

The measures included:

  • Registration office: Reduced in-person services, with residents encouraged to use the electronic office or call 971 959 006.

  • Llar Eivissa: Activities suspended, although meal services could continue if weather conditions permitted.

  • Council-run nurseries: Educational activities suspended.

  • Es Raspallar, Blancadona and Sant Rafel racecourse: Closed until further notice.

  • Cas Serres Hospital Residence: Day-centre services suspended for external users, while activities for residents continued.

  • Cas Serres Island Library: Closed until further notice.

  • Driving examination centre: Closed until further notice.

  • Vehicle inspection stations (ITV): Both stations on Ibiza closed for Monday. People with appointments on 19 October were allowed to attend within the following two weeks without booking another appointment.

The council advised residents to avoid unnecessary journeys and follow instructions from emergency services.

Sant Antoni Closes Municipal Offices and Sports Facilities

Sant Antoni de Portmany also announced the closure of its municipal offices and sports facilities for Monday.

The town council suspended sports and cultural activities, both outdoors and in municipal buildings. The measures also affected municipal services and facilities, including the public library, social services, tourist information office and Espai Jove.

Municipal employees were instructed not to attend their workplaces in person unless they were required to provide essential or emergency services.

The restrictions were introduced as a precaution against the risk of flooding and dangerous travel conditions.

Other Municipalities Introduce Preventive Measures

Ibiza Town, Sant Josep de sa Talaia and Santa Eulària des Riu also announced suspensions of in-person municipal services and closures of sports facilities.

The measures varied by municipality and facility, reflecting the need to maintain essential services while limiting public activity and unnecessary travel during the storm.

The closures formed part of a broader emergency response across the Pitiusas, where intense rainfall had already caused flooding in residential areas, commercial premises and public spaces.

Authorities Warn Residents to Avoid Unnecessary Travel

Emergency authorities continued to urge residents to remain cautious as Storm Adam affected the islands.

The public was advised to avoid unnecessary journeys, stay away from torrents and flood-prone areas, and never attempt to cross flooded roads. Residents were also warned against entering basements or underground areas at risk of flooding.

The measures came as emergency services responded to incidents across Ibiza and Formentera and prepared for further heavy rainfall.

Residents should check the latest announcements from their town council and the Consell d’Eivissa before visiting public offices or facilities, as closures and service arrangements may change as the weather situation develops.

The suspensions announced for Monday, 19 October, were precautionary measures linked to Storm Adam and should not be interpreted as a general suspension of work across the island.
