Storm Adam Brings More Than 75 Litres of Rain per Square Metre to Ibiza and Formentera Overnight

October 19, 2026

Ibiza and Formentera woke to another period of intense rainfall on Monday, 19 October, as Storm Adam continued to affect the Pitiusas. More than 75 litres of rain per square metre were recorded at two weather stations during the early hours, adding to the substantial rainfall that had already caused flooding and transport disruption on Sunday.

The latest figures, recorded up to 09:00 on Monday, highlight the continued pressure on roads, drainage systems and ground already saturated by the previous day's downpours.

Cap Martinet Records the Highest Early-Morning Total

Cap Martinet, in Ibiza, recorded 76.1 litres of rain per square metre by 09:00, the highest total among the stations listed in the morning report.

In Formentera, Cap de Barbaria registered 75.9 litres per square metre. Other locations across Ibiza also recorded substantial rainfall during the same period:

  • Cap Martinet, Ibiza: 76.1 litres per square metre.

  • Cap de Barbaria, Formentera: 75.9 litres per square metre.

  • Ibiza Airport: 67.4 litres per square metre.

  • Sa Coma: 60.7 litres per square metre.

  • Ibiza Town: 60.2 litres per square metre.

These figures cover the early hours of Monday up to 09:00. They come on top of the heavy precipitation recorded on Sunday, when flooding affected streets, businesses, ground-floor premises and roads across the two islands.

Ibiza Airport had accumulated 174 litres per square metre over the preceding 24 hours, underlining the persistence of the rainfall.

Sunday's Flooding Leaves the Islands Facing Further Risks

Sunday was particularly difficult across the Pitiusas, with intense rainfall causing flooding and transport problems in several areas.

In Formentera, La Mola recorded 178.4 litres per square metre by 12:45 on Sunday, according to figures reported during the storm. Cala Saona was also affected by powerful runoff, with the beach transformed by the flow of water.

In Ibiza Town, flooding particularly affected the es Pratet area and Calle Madrid, where water entered ground-floor commercial premises and lower-level spaces.

The weather also disrupted operations at Ibiza Airport. Operations were interrupted for more than two hours on Sunday as water accumulated, with 27 flight cancellations and 16 diversions reported during the disruption.

The combination of continued rainfall and already saturated ground has increased concern about further flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and around torrents.

Schools Closed as Emergency Resources Are Reinforced

Classes were suspended on Monday in Ibiza, Formentera and Mallorca as a precaution against the continuing risk posed by the storm.

The Military Emergency Unit (UME) was also deployed to the Pitiusas and Mallorca to reinforce the resources available to deal with the effects of the adverse weather.

Emergency services have urged residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary journeys and remain away from torrents and areas prone to flooding. People have also been warned not to walk or drive through flooded sections of road, and to avoid basements and garages where water can accumulate rapidly.

Weather Warnings Remain in Force

AEMET's forecast for Ibiza and Formentera included a warning for accumulated rainfall of up to 160 litres per square metre over 12 hours, with the stated warning period extending to 14:59 on Monday.

This figure represents the forecast rainfall threshold for the warning period, rather than rainfall already recorded at every location.

Authorities continue to monitor the changing situation as Storm Adam affects the islands. Residents and visitors should follow official emergency and weather updates, check road conditions before travelling and avoid assuming that a temporary reduction in rainfall means the risk has passed.

With substantial rain already recorded and further disruption possible, Ibiza and Formentera remain focused on managing the consequences of the storm and preventing additional incidents.
