Santa Eulària des Riu is marking International Older Persons Day with a programme of activities bringing together older residents from across the municipality for walking, discussion, theatre, music and social activities.

The programme, known as Temps d’Or 2026, is organised by the Ajuntament de Santa Eulària des Riu in collaboration with Sa Taula des Majors, a municipal participation and coordination group representing older residents from the municipality's five parishes.

The programme takes place across three days, on 1, 2 and 4 October.

A Walk Brings Together the Five Parishes

The programme opened on Thursday, 1 October, coinciding with International Older Persons Day.

Participants from the five parishes of Santa Eulària gathered at the Town Hall before setting off together on a walking route.

The morning began with a welcome from Mayor Carmen Ferrer, followed by the walk and a rest stop where participants were provided with water and fruit.

The activity was designed to encourage physical activity while also bringing older residents from different parts of the municipality together.

A Discussion About Ageing With Purpose

The programme continues with the round table Envellir amb sentit, meaning "Ageing With Meaning", on Friday, 2 October.

The discussion takes place at 10:30 at the Centre Cultural de Jesús and brings together three speakers with different professional and personal perspectives on ageing.

They are Elena Fernández Gamarra, a psychologist specialising in gerontology; Josep Maria Tugues, a doctor of medicine specialising in internal medicine and neurology; and Margarita Torres, president of the Club de Majors de Santa Eulària.

The session will look at ageing from different perspectives and provide an opportunity to discuss active and healthy ageing, participation and personal experience.

Theatre and Dancing at the Palacio de Congresos

The final part of Temps d’Or 2026 takes place on Sunday, 4 October, at the Palacio de Congresos de Ibiza.

The afternoon begins at 17:00 with a performance of Como la vida misma, presented by the Attipico theatre group.

A merienda and break will follow at 18:15, giving participants time to socialise before the evening programme begins.

From 19:15, the hall of the Palacio de Congresos will host a dance event with live music and ballroom dancing.

The official programme is scheduled to conclude at 21:00, when buses will begin returning participants to the different parishes of the municipality.

Promoting Active and Healthy Ageing

Temps d’Or is intended to create opportunities for older residents to remain active, participate in community life and meet people from across Santa Eulària.

The programme combines physical activity with discussion, culture and social events, reflecting the municipality's broader work around active and healthy ageing.

Sa Taula des Majors was established as a space for coordination between the Town Hall and older residents, including representatives of older people's clubs from the municipality's five parishes.

Its work includes encouraging participation, addressing issues affecting older residents and sharing information about activities and available resources.

Three Days Across Santa Eulària

The 2026 edition brings together a variety of activities rather than concentrating the celebrations into a single event.

The opening walk connected participants from the five parishes, the Friday discussion focuses on ageing and personal wellbeing, and the final Sunday gathering combines theatre, refreshments, live music and ballroom dancing.

Together, the programme provides several opportunities for older residents to take part in activities while strengthening social connections across the municipality.
