Ibiza Housing Inspections Find More Than 190 Bunk Beds in Overcrowded Properties in Sant Antoni

October 22, 2026

Housing inspections in Sant Antoni de Portmany have uncovered dozens of bunk beds in premises used for sleeping, including one location where occupants reportedly paid an average of €300 per month for accommodation.

The joint operation involved the Balearic Government’s housing inspection service, Sant Antoni Local Police and the Guardia Civil. Around 60 homes and commercial premises were inspected to examine their occupancy levels and living conditions.

Among the most significant findings were approximately 70 bunk beds in a premises on Avenida Doctor Fleming and between 120 and 130 in four flats within a building on Carrer de Sant Antoni.

Around 70 Bunk Beds Found on Avenida Doctor Fleming

At a premises on Avenida Doctor Fleming, inspectors identified around 70 bunk beds and between 20 and 30 people reportedly sleeping in different rooms.

According to information gathered during interviews with occupants, they paid an average of approximately €300 per month for their accommodation.

The number of beds recorded should not be confused with the number of people living at the property. Authorities reported around 70 bunk beds, while the estimated number of occupants sleeping there was between 20 and 30.

Four Flats Contained Between 120 and 130 Bunk Beds

A second significant finding involved four flats in a building on Carrer de Sant Antoni. Inspectors observed approximately 30 bunk beds in each property, with what they described as high occupancy.

Together, the four flats contained between 120 and 130 bunk beds.

Inspectors also visited other premises in the municipality. At one location, they found that the property was being used as sleeping accommodation for an estimated five or six people.

During the operation, officers interviewed residents and collected information about their living arrangements, accommodation conditions and rental payments.

Authorities Assess Possible Housing Violations

The documentation collected during the inspections has been forwarded to the relevant services for assessment. Authorities will determine what further action may be appropriate, including whether to open administrative sanction proceedings relating to housing conditions and habitability requirements.

The inspections form part of wider efforts to address possible irregularities in the municipality. Some of the operations originated from work by Sant Antoni’s Agents of Intrusion and Coexistence, who investigate suspected illegal tourist rentals and other situations that may require administrative intervention.

The initiative also forms part of cooperation between Sant Antoni Town Hall and the Ibiza Island Council under the island’s Plan Against Intrusion.

At the time of the reported findings, the available information did not confirm any final sanctions arising from these inspections.

How to Report Suspected Illegal Rentals or Inadequate Housing

Sant Antoni Town Hall has encouraged residents to report suspected illegal tourist rentals or potentially inadequate accommodation so that the relevant authorities can investigate.

Reports can be submitted through the Línea Verde application, using its section for suspected illegal tourist rentals, or by contacting Sant Antoni Local Police on 971 340 830.

The Balearic Government also maintains a housing inspection reporting channel through its official website.

The inspection findings highlight the housing conditions that authorities are examining in Sant Antoni, while any determination of legal breaches and potential penalties remains subject to the relevant administrative assessment.
