A Glasgow man has taken on a 1,650-mile cycling challenge inspired by Ibiza, raising money for a cancer charity following his wife's diagnosis with Stage 4 bowel and liver cancer.

Calum Fraser is completing the equivalent of the distance between Glasgow and Ibiza on a static bike as part of a fundraising campaign for Beatson Cancer Charity.

The challenge, called “Ride to Ibiza”, is being carried out with support from PureGym Silverburn and Silverburn Shopping Centre.

Turning Ibiza Memories Into a Fundraising Challenge

Fraser said the idea came after his wife Cherlyn was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel and liver cancer.

The couple and their family have personal connections to Ibiza, describing the island as a place associated with important family memories.

Rather than simply raising money through a conventional campaign, Fraser decided to turn the distance between Glasgow and Ibiza into a physical challenge.

The target is 1,650 miles on a static bicycle.

The fundraiser's description explains that the challenge is intended to represent the journey between the two places rather than an actual cycle route from Scotland to Ibiza.

Supporting Beatson Cancer Charity

The money raised is going to Beatson Cancer Charity, which supports people affected by cancer across Scotland.

Fraser said the family had experienced the charity's care, compassion and support first-hand and wanted to give something back while raising awareness for other people facing cancer.

Beatson Cancer Charity provides practical support and wellbeing services alongside funding research and specialist work connected with cancer care.

The Challenge Is About More Than Distance

The fundraiser describes the challenge as being about community, support and togetherness as well as the number of miles completed.

The connection with Ibiza is particularly personal for the Fraser family, making the island the destination at the heart of the fundraising challenge.

The campaign also has the backing of PureGym Silverburn and Silverburn Shopping Centre, which have supported the event and encouraged Fraser throughout the challenge.

More Than £1,500 Raised So Far

The fundraising page currently shows £1,546.64 in online donations, with a further £355 in Gift Aid, from 59 donations displayed on the page.

The total is ongoing and may continue to increase as supporters contribute.

Every donation is intended to support Beatson Cancer Charity and its work with cancer patients and their families across Scotland.

An Ibiza Connection From Scotland

Although the challenge is taking place on a static bicycle in Glasgow rather than on roads between Scotland and Spain, Ibiza remains central to its story.

For the Fraser family, the island represents shared memories that have been turned into a fundraising goal during an exceptionally difficult period.

The 1,650-mile target provides a simple connection between those memories and a practical way to raise money for a cause that has become personally important to the family.
