Ibiza's beaches were busy again on Saturday, September 26, as warm temperatures and calm conditions encouraged residents and visitors to head to the coast despite the official arrival of autumn.

Platges de Comte and Cala Bassa were among the popular beaches seeing plenty of activity, with towels and umbrellas spread across the sand and people continuing to make the most of the sea and sunshine.

Summer Conditions After the Autumn Equinox

Astronomical autumn officially began in Spain on September 23, at 01:05 Spanish mainland time, according to the National Geographic Institute. That made September 26 the first Saturday of the new season.

Despite the change of season, conditions around Ibiza remained distinctly summery.

AEMET's beach forecast for Cala Bassa recorded a predicted maximum of 30°C for Saturday, with sea temperatures reaching 28°C. Cala Vedella was forecast to reach 29°C, with sea temperatures around 26°C, while Cala d'Hort was also expected to reach 30°C.

The combination of warm air, relatively calm seas and clear skies during much of Saturday helped keep the island's beaches attractive well beyond the traditional summer months.

Residents and Late-Season Visitors

The beach crowds included families, residents taking advantage of September's quieter atmosphere and tourists making the most of their final days on the island.

The late-season weather also provided an extra weekend of activity for parts of the coastal economy, including beach restaurants and businesses connected with sun loungers and boat rentals. Some seasonal businesses traditionally continue operating into October before closing for the winter period.

Ibiza Has Just Come Through a Record Summer

The warm weekend followed an exceptionally hot summer across the Balearic Islands.

AEMET reported that summer 2026 was the hottest on record in the islands since the official series began in 1961. The average temperature across the Balearics reached 27.1°C, with Ibiza recording 26.9°C and Formentera 27.3°C. The summer was also described as extremely warm and notably dry in Ibiza.

AEMET reported three heatwaves in Ibiza during the summer and recorded particularly high temperatures across the Balearics.

A Milder Sunday Ahead

The summer-like conditions were not expected to continue unchanged through the entire weekend.

For Sunday, September 27, AEMET's beach forecasts showed slightly lower maximum temperatures, generally around 29°C at several Ibiza beaches, with cloud increasing during the afternoon. Cala Bassa was forecast to reach 29°C, as was Cala Vedella, while Cala d'Hort was also expected to reach 29°C.

The change suggests a more autumnal feel could begin to emerge even as September comes to a close.

Autumn Arrives, But Ibiza's Beach Season Continues

Saturday's full beaches offered another reminder that the arrival of autumn does not immediately end Ibiza's coastal season.

With the sea still warm, temperatures close to 30°C and many businesses continuing into the later part of September and October, the island's beaches remained an important part of life on the final weekend of the month.
